something greater

Being the coach's wife is hard. It takes sacrifice of time with your husband and time for other things. Schedules get shifted, plans delayed, trips postponed. But it is hands down one of the greatest blessings in my life, and I'll tell you why. I get to be a part of my husband's calling. As a wife it is a delight to be allowed to peak inside his world and actually get to be a part of it. This will be J's 7th season as a high school football coach, but his first as head coach. It is an opportunity that was prayerfully considered. He takes it seriously and so do I. We understand that this is not just a job, hobby or even a passion . It is what he is called to do- to influence young men to be great men of God, to be leaders and to live with integrity through sports.

1 Timothy 4:8 For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

I must confess I didn't always feel quite so supportive. It was very difficult for me to adjust to being a coach's wife our first year of marriage. We had been together for five years before we were married, but it was different when I became a Mrs. I will be the first to admit that I am not an athlete. I don't think like an athlete, I am not competitive and if I am brutally honest I don't understand what all of the hoopla is about. But my husband LOVES sports. And you know what, I had to come to a realization that it's ok that I don't understand it. He doesn't always understand why I love to cook and make fun things, or why I am CrAzy about Christmas. But he lets me be and I had to learn to let him be too.

When I realized that the root of my problem with sports was my selfishness, our marriage changed. When I began to see his coaching as an opportunity to serve together and not as a threat to our marriage, it changed. When I began to support him, to be interested in what he is interested in, it changed. And ya'll- can change be a good thing!

These boys have become dear to us. We love that we get to watch them grow all 4 years of high school!

I love being the coach's wife. It is a title I wear proudly, and I can't wait for the 1st week of August when those boys hit the field for practice and the season begins.
